Somatic
Digital announced today it received a significant purchase order to
launch the first rollout of its TouchBook™ platforms. The platforms
will be custom branded and bundled with five interdisciplinary content
booklets and aligned digital content. The bundle will also contain an
opt-in content subscription and online tutoring service. The product is
targeted to all early elementary students, including those with special
needs. The publisher’s anticipated launch is in early 2008.
The
TouchBook™ platform enables the reader of normally printed materials to
touch the pages and retrieve linked digital content or launch
communication applications on a computer.
Jason
E. Barkeloo, the President of Somatic Digital states, "With this order
the publisher will provide their branded inclusive learning experience
for early elementary students. Our technology will also enable the
publisher to generate recurring revenues through the delivery of
services and future content subscriptions.”
The
TouchBook™ platform is embedded with the Touch User Interface (TUI)
technology. Properly designed content materials using the TUI should
meet the requirements outlined in the National Instructional Materials
Accessibility Standard (NIMAS), the Individuals with Disabilities
Education Improvement Act (IDEIA), No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, and
Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Press Release, March 13.
