The school improvement industry's interests lie with an NCLB that leaves no child behind. To exploit this moral high ground, we need to provide evidence that assuring every student can meet basic standards in key subjects (e.g. proficiency) is possible. First, that we offer a range of programs with promise for every kind of student. Second, that with a more predictable and stable regulatory environment we can raise the capital to meet demand. Third, that without highly demanding AYP requirements - call them "stretch goals" - Congress can be absolutely sure that the public school system will leave the usual disadvantaged children behind. NCLB is a "forced march" but not of students - it's on behalf of students. more »
